Kim blogging? No way...

Hello all!!!

It's been approx. forever since I've blogged and I wanted to give you all an update on my life!

I don't normally blog unless something interesting has happened in my life, and since nothing fascinating has happened recently, I decided I just need to write about my boring life.

So...since I last posted...(which btw was June 10)...the following things have happened:

1. My friend Michael came to visit! Which was absolutely amazing. I'm so glad that I still keep in touch with him, since everyone else in my grad program has decided to completely ignore me. (whatever...I don't do the best job keeping in touch with them either...)

2. We went to NYC to visit Brizzle and Oh Henry David Not Thoreau. Jenny and I had a blasty in New York and I want to go back...like tomorrow. Unfortunately I won't have the money to go back until probably next July. The 4S reunion was amazing. I absolutely love spending time with everyone and I am very much looking forward to Thanksgiving.

3. Maggie had a birthday! I went up for bowling and dinner for Maggie's 25th and had a great time! I played as Huebert, in honor of the that song Cambria and I finished for H&P The Musical while in NY.

4. Book Club. We read "The Corrections", which is an amazing book. You all should read it if you get the chance. And after bookclub, Maggie and I went and saw The X-Files movie, which was also good.

5. Work, work, and more work.

6. Eric came to visit Jenny! And I luckily got to see him as well.

7. Colorado! Dani and I went to visit Shannon in CO!

8. Work, work, and more work.

That's about it!

Work has been stressful (to put it gently). A lot of my fun coworkers have left (and the rest that I'm close with will probably be gone by my birthday), which makes going to work painful. But, the students start next week (in fact, today was the first day of Panhellenic Recruitment Counselor training!) so I'm glad to have them back! Our grad took a full time job at USD, which means I am also doing her job currently as well. I was at work until 8pm tonight, the first of many late nights!

I'm looking forward to it being my birthday, because it means that recruitment will be over, and Thanksgiving will only be two months away!

On a personal note: I'm doing Weight Watchers again and I've lost 12 pounds! I'm hoping to keep going! Here's to 10% by November 1! :) (that's my goal)

Miss you all terribly. (Except Jenny, who I see regularly...)

PS. I'm glad that Joe Biden has helped Bri realize that Delaware actually DOES exist.

Drama for your mama

It's been a rough week for me. I wanted to thank you all for being so supportive in this crazy time for me.

This situation has actually been really tough on me. This is the third issue with drugs that I've seen with my students in the past year. It's just so hard for me to understand. It's probably because of the way I grew up and the values that my parents taught me, but I just don't understand why anyone would want to get so involved with that of lifestyle. What kills me though is that this situation has taught me that my students learned nothing from the two deaths in the last year. I truly hope they take this situation and learn from it that they are NOT invincible and they need to take care of each other and hold each other accountable. ::sigh::

The hardest part of me is seeing the students not directly involved being so affected. We all just have to take it one day at a time.

This situation has just made me miss you all more and more! I am really truly excited to come to New York in July! :) Looking forward to it!

Shaking things up

Okay, so I came on the blog today to bug people about not blogging, then I decided to check the blog to make sure nobody had posted recently and guess what--two of you (Maggie and Bri) had! Sorry! Okay, BUT: I think we can all agree that we've been a little remiss about posting lately, and how are we supposed to keep in touch if we don't ever write on the blog? I blog way more at my personal blog and WAY more at my Tumblr than I blog here because I feel like people don't read this. I have a two-point solution to this problem, which I will lay out for you now:

1. Everybody get Google Reader. Y'all have a Gmail account--I know that because you have to have one to have a Blogger account...right? Maybe that's not true, but since Blogger and Gmail are connected, most of you probably have a Gmail account. I have so many I can't even keep track! Anyway, Google accounts have this cool feature called the Reader.

All you have to do is subscribe

by typing (or copy+pasting) our URL [http://foursandfriends.blogspot.com] into the field.

The Reader will update you every time there's a new post in a blog that you're subscribed to. Then you'll know immediately when somebody posts, and you can scurry over to comment (seriously, comments are the soul of blogs; we should really do this more, so that we can have a diablog instead of a monoblog, as Diablo Cody would say) or write a post of your own.

2. We should post more. Let's just agree that nothing is too boring to post. Navel-gazing is the soul of blogs (I know I just said that about commenting, but let's just pretend that blogs are extraterrestrial beings capable of having more than one soul). You may think it's boring that one of your company's clients recently died in his sleep of an undiagnosed heart condition at the age of twenty-seven (SCARY!), or that your boss' high school aged son is eating all the Girl Scout cookies you bought for your office mates, but nobody else will! Somebody say something funny? Put it on the blog! Have a really excellent sandwich for lunch? Blog about it! Nothing's too small or too boring!

To that end, I offer up this humble tidbit from my life: My coworker Vicky brought me an X-Files movie poster from New York Comicon! Maggie and Cambria: jealous? Also, I was stuck in the lobby of our building for fifteen minutes because they shut down all the elevators due to a fire drill (we have fire drills like every three days here, it's a totally ridiculous, post-September 11 overprecaution) and hell naw am I going to walk up twelve flights of stairs (I already had to walk up the escalator to the subway today, and I was PISED!).

So come on, guys, let's do better--you know you want to!

(P.S. When did I become everybody's blogmom?)

It's alive!

Hey all!

Just wanted to let you all know that I'm actually alive. I've been pretty MIA recently, especailly on the blog. Mostly because I don't have much exciting going on in my life.

I've been really busy at work recently. I went to SF for a conference and then straight into Greek Week. I haven't left work on time and had an actual full evening to myself in almost two weeks! AH! The good news- I am getting TONS of comp time! :)

I chatted with Jenny briefly tonight. She's doing okay, she's struggling with her job right now and I'm pretty sure she's checked out and super ready to leave. We'll see how it goes. But...we did chat about NYC!! YAY! I want it to be summer now.

I'm so exhausted, I can't even type anymore.

Stokely OUT.

Uncomfortable Situations

HELLO!! While sitting around on my mandatory vacation I have decided to give you all an actual update on my life. But first:

Cambria: Hm...thigh high gym socks. That one is tough. You could be a slutty Brady. Haha! That would be hilarious! DO IT!

Back to business-

I've been keeping myself busy, as usual. I think we're finally coming to a slow down at work. That will be really nice. Although I will have some catching up to do on Monday after an entire week away from work. It will be interesting to see how everything is handled with events, etc. after the university being closed for so long. My office looks much like my apartment- in shambles. It was so clean before recruitment and I have yet to get it back into a presentable state. Once I do, I promise to post pictures of my fantastic, beautiful, and wonderful office. :)

This week we had a mandatory vacation (as I have been calling it) because of the fires. It has actually been really nice for me. I have had time to unpack and work on my Halloween costume. I'm going to be Robin Hood. Don't tell any of my SD friends because it's a secret (except from Dani who has helped me with the shopping). But yeah, a nice break from the constant on the go that my life has been for the last three months.

Last Friday I went downtown with Dani. We went dancing at Whiskey Girl. I love that place so much. We had a blast! Of course, it would have been more fun with the 4S there. But, alas. On Saturday I went all out and went downtown again after the football game (go big or go home!)We just went to dinner, but it was fun.

Last night was the strangest going out experience I have had in a while. Dani and I went to Outback Steakhouse (yum) and I had two big ridiculous frozen adult beverages which are totally out of my norm. We decided to head over to Incahoots and Ben and Navi (new friend- learn her name now...haha) joined us. It was fun and totally awkward for a multitude of reasons. Mostly because it was college night and we ran into a million of my students (who calls a thousand of us?). No seriously, I have run into a few students before while out and about on the town, but never ones I work with regularly or so many in one place. Well...both the IFC and Panhel presidents were there (they both claim it was their first time there) and a bunch of other exec board members. It was pretty much the most uncomfortable experience of my life. Especially when they tried to drag me onto the dance floor. AWWWWKWAAARD. Dani and I decided we needed to be drunk to handle the situation- unfortunately she was driving so I quickly became the annoying drunk girl of the group.

But yeah, I've been doing well. I saw Maggie on Sunday which was awesome! We spent some time at the Irvine Spectrum (with Jennifer and Steve- who are getting a puppy!). The winds were crazy! I am sure you all have heard that on the news though.

I have been really appreciating having Dani around a lot more recently. For some reason I have been feeling more and more homesick (mostly for y'all!) and being able to spend time with Dani has really helped. She's a blast! She even got me to join the gym! I'll wait while you catch your breath from the gasping. But seriuosly, it's just really nice to have such an awesome friend around.

I miss you all like crazy. It was so great to see Maggie but it made me want to have everyone together again. :( I see Jenny more and more now which is really nice as well. I miss Carrie like CRAZY because I live down the street from where you lived in SD! I booked my flight to NY for Thanksgiving and I am PUMPED! I even went out and bought a new coat. Oh yeah!

Oh and I went home a few weeks ago for Caroline's wedding. It was gorgeous! Caroline looked beautiful and the weather was perfect!! It was really great to catch up with some people from HS as well. Jenni (marlin no longer her last name) is doing well and her daughter is absolutley adorable. Chris Marcoux is hilarious! Seriously, I don't remember him being so funny in high school. Maybe it was because I drank an entire carafe of wine...hmmm. But yes, if you updates on specific people let me know, I would be more than willing to share.

But mostly my life is boring. Work, work, gym, work. That's pretty much my routine.

Don't be jealous!!!

Story Time

So I told this story to Anna yesterday and she told me I should post it because it's hilarious.

For all the HP fans among us...

A few weeks back my coworker was out of town. And as I have stated before we like to torture each other while away so I stole all of his stress balls (yes, he has approx. 12- no clue why) before we filled his entire office with balloons. By the end of the day we were all blue in the face from blowing up balloons!

Anyway, when he returned he noticed his stress balls missing and asked me where I had hidden them. I gave him two clues: they are in a common area (not a private office) and they are all together. I told him also to let me know when he found them.

By lunch time I thought he had given up and didn't think more about it until another coworker approached me around 2 and asked if the stress balls had been found. I decided to check and if they were still hidden move them! So I opened the drawer to find the stress balls missing and a note that read:

To the Dark Lord
I know I will be dead long before you read this, but I want you to know that it was I who discovered your secret.
R.A.B.

I DIED laughing! I even kept the note- it's currently on my computer screen (it's on a post-it).

There ya go. Fun stories from the life of K.Sto.

Also- I'm hungry. That is all.

If curiosity kills the cat, what does boredom kill?

First, I would like it to be known that I will not post my opinions on the HP5 movie until everyone has seen it. I don't like ruining things for people. Although I think that the producers of these HP movies do enough of that as it is.

No but really, I did not enjoy it as much as the first two (which I still believe are the best) but I did enjoy this movie much more than HP3 and HP4. So, those of you who have not seen it...get your butts to the THEATER!

On a side note- I MOVED TO MY NEW OFFICE TODAY! woot!

It's nice, I have a nice large U shaped desk, a small table with four chairs, a file cabinet, and a bookshelf. I have yet to unpack anything except my pen holder, but it'll come along. When I finish settling in I will take pictures and post them. Having my own office makes me feel like a real adult!

Tomorrow I have to work (orientation), then I'm going to Souplantation with coworkers, and get this- I'm going hunting for the first three HP's at used book stores.

Don't get jealous. I know you are.

And as a side note- I have made my final decision that I will be going to New York for Thanksgiving. I'm searching for flights already. So Anna and Cambria- GET READY. Yippee!

Also two funny stories-

1. I went to 7-11 yesterday to buy a vitamin water (the student market on campus had closed and it's faster to walk to 7-11 than to the other side of campus to the other market) and I bought a few snacks as well (chips!) and went upt to pay. My total came to $6.66! I looked at the number and said "Creepy" to the guy behind the counter and he didn't understand why that was creepy. I had to explain it. He laughed. Weird.

2. While standing in line for HP5 I texted a few people to tell them I was in line. Cambria responded with "Wow, you're there early. If only I could apparate..." It was the best response ever.

The end.

I'm bored. I should unpack my stuff.

Get excited.
